Welcome
Within the pages of my journal you will find mostly rants and commentary on topics of concern to me. Currently, those would include the illegal occupation of Iraq, human rights, the threat of theocracy, and the U. S. Presidency of Barack Obama.

If these things interest you as well, read on. If you wish to engage in attack debate, simply move on. I won't respond to you. If you are interested in honest debate, and have an open mind, then I welcome you.

Oh, and one more thing. I believe Bush 43 was the worst president ever to hold that office in the history of the United States. I am unashamed of that opinion.

Truth
If your actions harm no one, then they are ethical. The reverse is not necessarily true.

You'll want to go read this. If the future of this nation means anything to you, and if like me, you are determined, as [info]lasarina says here:

I will not live in fear.
I will vote my conscience.

This man truly gets it. Yes, he lied about a sexual affair in his office. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." This is a true statesman, and ultimately, that is how I believe history will judge him.

Dissent, and the unacceptability of thought

Olbermann Video: Bush owes us an apology

Yes, he does. He owes the entire United States an apology for suggesting that it is unacceptable to think anything. Allow me to direct you once again to the words of Historian Howard Zinn:Read more... )

I wonder how George Bush would respond to the words of the Declaration of Independence. Would he even understand what they mean? Clearly he does not understand the oath he took to defend the Constitution.

More quotes on the value of dissent can be read here in a much earlier post from my journal. That post was 10 months ago. The attack on all voices of dissent just gets stronger and stronger.

I cannot stress just how strongly I agree with you Mr. Olbermann. Between you and Liz Marcs, I am still hopeful that the media might yet stand up and tell this emperor that he has no clothes, and that we all know it.

Folk Hero of the American West?

The Mayor Who Challenged the President
Excerpt:

"Blind faith in bad leaders is not patriotism," he told the excited crowd, a slender, gray haired man in a black suit, standing alone, and entirely unprotected, at a microphone on a podium on the steps of City Hall. In a booming bass, denouncing the hundreds of angry callers who had phoned his office to urge him not to embarrass the city by protesting the presence of the nation's leader, he continued. "A patriot does not tell people who are intensely concerned about their country to sit down and be quiet in the name of politeness."

Dissent: Unpatriotic or necessary?

How I feel: quixotic

Dissent these days seems to be a dirty word. The Bush administration has, at least since September 11th, usually termed any criticism of its policies "unpatriotic." - TomPaine.com
